This zoo will name a cockroach after your ex, then feed it to a meerkat on Valentine's Day

The Valentine’s week is a time full of amazing food, fancy flowers, costly gifts and eventful days for some, but for hopelessly single people, it’s just a bizarre waste of time and money for no reason, and a reminder of their long lost love. For those barely romantic people, there is a place where they can satisfy their vengeful thirst.

These bad memories of the past can be easily removed by feeding your ex to a meerkat! Well, that was a metaphor. What literally is done, is that, a live cockroach is named after your ex, and fed to a meerkat! This happens in the El Paso zoo, of Texas!
Not only will that cockroach be fed to a meerkat, it will happen on Valentine’s Day, so that it becomes easy for someone to forget him/her.

This cockroach feeding event is named “Quit Bugging Me”, and by the name of it, it sounds fun. This event is live-streamed, so that everybody can see its results! The names of people’s exes are hung up on a list near the meerkat which will eat the roaches, three days before Valentine’s Day, i.e on 11th February. The coordinator of the El Paso zoo events, Sarah Borrego, said to the CBS News, that they hope to involve the community more with the zoo, through this weird event.

Borrego explained that this event was a fun way to involve the community in their regular enrichment activities. The roaches are a favourite snack for the meerkats, and it is all the way better if they are named after people’s exes and fed to these animals on Valentine’s Day!

She also said that, all people have had their hearts broken once, and for some, it’s still not over. So, it was a better idea to get the community involved and also, slack off with the frustration a bit.

The Facebook page of the El Paso zoo, posted that it was a perfect gift on a Valentine’s Day for a single and heart broken people. A cockroach named after an ex and fed to a meerkat, is obviously fun and a stress buster for these disturbed people! The initials of the names of these ex-es will be posted on their Facebook page, from February 11th, and the feeding will take place on February 14th on 2:15 pm. It’ll be fun watching these animals devour the bugs!

Surprisingly, El Paso isn’t the only “fun-loving” zoo out there. The Hemsley Conservation Center, in Kent in England, is another one of this kind, that helps with this heartbreak session. This centre, for a small amount of donation, names a cockroach after one’s ex, but sadly enough, it’s not fed to an animal.

A similar activity is running in the Bronx zoo too.

This campaign of the El Paso zoo, was beyond expectations, obviously all thanks to the outburst of response from the public. They’re even thinking of expanding this love to the other animals as well.
