How to Supercharge Your Dopamine Levels Naturally and Never Feel Depressed or Anxious Again






You may have heard of the chemical in your brain called dopamine which has been proven to be one of the neurotransmitters responsible for sending pleasure signals throughout your brain. Whenever this chemical is released, it gives us a feeling of ecstasy and elation.

Various studies have been conducted in history to test and find out where the pleasure centers in the brain can be located. One of the most famous ones was conducted by B.F. Skinner who implanted electrodes in brains of rats which would stimulate certain areas of their brain whenever they pull down a lever. The study revealed that the mice responded moderately to a majority of the areas where the electrodes were placed. The stunning thing about the experiment was that it showed an interconnected network of neurons that could be considered as the pleasure circuit.

They found out from the research that the rats would press the lever as many as 7,000 times in an hour to induce pleasure in their brains. They would even do so over food and male rats would prefer to press the lever despite the presence of female rats in heat. Effectively, they became addicted to the joy buzzer to the point that they would neglect all other things around them just so they can have some pleasure stimulation. The scientists had to remove the electrodes from the rats’ brains to prevent them from dying of starvation.

Now, following this research, a widely infamous experiment due to its use of human subjects was conducted in the 1970s which tried to replicate Skinner’s box but on humans. What made this experiment unethical was the fact that the scientists who led the research operated on a homosexual male and implanted the same types of electrodes to different regions of his brain. After the brain surgery, they gave him three months to heal. Out of the nine regions in his brain, the electrode placed in the septum was the only one that released pleasure signals.

They brought him back in and allowed him freedom to use the stimulator. Much like the experiment with the rats, the man pressed the stimulator like someone button-mashing a video game controller. Just to be fair, another experiment was conducted on a woman by a different group, which exhibited the same results.

Leaving aside the unethical human experimentation, research has shown how dopamine in our brain can induce such a high that it could even hook someone into doing anything that would stimulate the pleasure circuits of the brain and disregarding everything else that happens around them.

We get the same kind of stimulation in small bursts whenever we eat good food, have sex, accomplish a task or goal, and even taking drugs. The sensation is hardwired within us and is meant to tell us when something feels good. But dopamine has other purposes aside from being the happiness hormone or the reward drug. It also helps in regulating different body functions from sleep to metabolism.

The importance of dopamine to our bodies cannot be overstated. It produces such a high that it might help people who may be going through emotional difficulties, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, and other negative feelings that can cause harm to their mental, emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. So here we would like to present a few safe ways to increase your dopamine levels.

Exercise

One of the reasons why we are all recommended to have enough exercise every day is for the simple fact that it aids in the normal functioning of our bodily functions. Moreover, the human body was designed to move about and exert effort.

Exercise accomplishes multiple objectives from keeping our heart and other organs healthy to preventing emotional stress and anxiety. It also induces the release of dopamine and another neurotransmitter called serotonin. By exercising, we keep ourselves fit and healthy in a holistic manner.

Accomplish goals on a to-do list

You may wonder why there are so many mobile games nowadays that have a simple and quick reward mechanism like tapping games. That is because whenever we achieve something, no matter how small it may be, our brain sends out dopamine that encourages us to accomplish more tasks in the process. Now, you know why it feels good when you are able to do something and finish it.

Eat dopamine-inducing foods

There are some foods that contain the amino acid, tyrosine which is a precursor to dopamine. Thus, by eating foods that are rich in tyrosine, it would help in releasing the dopamine from your brain. Some of these include:

  • Green tea
  • Milk
  • Watermelon
  • Coffee
  • Almonds
  • Bananas
  • Yogurt
  • Dark chocolate

Reduce lipopolysaccharides

These are bacterial endotoxins that can usually be found in the gut. In large amounts, they pose problems to your health and can cause inflammation. Furthermore, they inhibit the production or release of dopamine. You can eat foods like yogurt, kimchi, and kefir as well as foods rich in probiotics to help protect your immune system and decrease the amount of lipopolysaccharides in your body.

As you may have guessed, toxins can inhibit the stimulation of dopamine in your body. That’s why it’s important to release those toxins. There are various ways of cleansing your body such as drinking vegetable juices, eating fiber-rich food, drinking plenty of clean water, taking herbs such as dandelion root, and drinking green tea.

Songs that get you pumped up can actually induce your body and your brain to release some dopamine. It makes you feel good and motivates you to achieve more than what you think you can do.
